We are looking forward to working on all the fun and interesting learning activities and projects we have planned.
We will shortly be sending home our Term 1 newsletter with more detailed information on what we will be covering this term and details about our Year 3 routines and expectations including P.E days and homework. A copy will also be uploaded to the website after it has been sent home.

Year 3 News -

September 2014

What a fantastic start to the school year! Our lovely Year 3's have entered KS2 ready and eager to learn. They have got stuck in to Spanish week and have enjoyed listening to Spanish music and using percussion, dancing some flamenco routines and are starting to grasp basic Spanish phrases. Please check out our photos.

An overview of Term 1 topics:-

Science: Light and dark

History: Our timeline

PE: Cross country running and Spanish dance

Music/Drama: Spanish songs, shadow puppet plays

Art/DT: experimenting with different media, Gaudi, season calendar

Spanish: Simple greetings/phrases, numbers 1-10, colours

ICT: Keyboard skills, Microsoft Word basic skills, searching the internet, Bug Club

In Literacy we will be covering various topics including retelling familiar stories, Autumn poetry, Spelling methods and grammar skills, script writing, letter writing and handwriting.

In Maths we will be learning tables, place value-partitioning 3 digit numbers, written and mental methods for adding and taking away, 2D shape, basic measuring and problem solving.

PE days

Indoor PE: Wednesdays

Outdoor PE: Fridays

Please make sure your child has a proper kit in school at all times. This includes: white t-shirt, black shorts/joggers and daps/trainers.

A piece of homework for either Maths, Literacy or Topic will be given out each Friday. It needs to be returned by the following Wednesday so it can be marked in time for teachers to give out the next piece.

Spellings will also be given out on Friday and children will be expected to practise these several times throughout the week. They will be tested on the following Friday and then given their new set. There will be certificates for those who try extra hard with learning their spellings.

It is very important that children engage in regular reading practise. We expect the children to read to an adult or an older child 5 times weekly. A supervised session on Bug Club is a great way to work towards this goal, particularly because it has a focus on comprehension which is vital for building strong readers. There will be small prizes for those who make a good effort with this.

Children are expected to know all times tables and how to tell the time by the end of year 3. Please practise these skills with your child at home to ensure they stay on top of this.

Many thanks in advance for your support.

Miss Smith and Miss Greipl.

This week year 3 went to Bristol Museum, doing the Rocks workshop!
